Wetumpka is the county seat. Other municipalities in the county include Millbrook, Tallassee, Eclectic, Coosada, Deatsville, and Elmore.  As of the 2000 census, there are 65,874 people in Elmore County, the third fastest growing county in Alabama.

 

Envision 2020 is a community-driven strategic planning effort involving citizens and leaders in the Central Alabama counties of Autauga, Elmore, Lowndes, Macon and Montgomery - the River Region. Its purpose is to develop shared goals encompassing all aspects of the region's future and to see that those goals are implemented.

  • The River Region Smart Growth Web Log is an educational and awareness tool for the River Region administered by Professor Chad Emerson of Faulkner University's Jones School of Law.  The goal of the Web log is to provide readers with regular news, commentary, and analysis concerning the state of Smart Growth in the River Region

  • RegionLink is a Web resource for regional practitioners.  It provides individuals and organizations with the opportunity to network and share relevant, meaningful information on issues of mutual interest.
